HUNTSVILLE, AL — Global Ties Alabama, a community-based organization
founded in 1965 to create global connections through exchange programs and other cross-cultural activities, is proud to announce the initiation of the first Refugee Resettlement Program in North Alabama.

Global Ties Alabama was recently named an official affiliate agency of Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM), which is one of ten national refugee resettlement agencies that partner with the federal government to resettle those with legal refugee status in the U.S. With a commitment to upholding humanitarian values, Global Ties Alabama is taking a significant step to create a welcoming and supportive environment for displaced individuals and families who have been forced to flee their home countries due to persecution, conflict, or other forms of violence. As the first official refugee resettlement agency in North Alabama, the program aims to facilitate the successful integration of refugees into the North Alabama community, providing them with essential resources and opportunities to rebuild their lives.

Global Ties Alabama is committed to offering a comprehensive range of support services, including housing assistance, language classes, job placement, mental health and trauma support, and cultural orientation. These services are designed to empower refugees as they navigate the challenges of starting anew in a foreign land and become self-sufficient, contributing members of our communities. Funded by the Department of State, the Reception and Placement program offers support services to refugees during their first 90 days in the U.S.

At Global Ties Alabama, we also believe in the strength of collaboration and have established strategic partnerships with local businesses, educational institutions, government agencies, community organizations, and other local stakeholders to create a support network for refugees. These collaborations will go far in enhancing access to education, employment, and healthcare services for our new neighbors. The program will also actively host and engage in community events to provide opportunities for cultural enrichment, celebration, and mutual learning.

“Our program’s mission is to empower refugees to forge a new and meaningful life in Huntsville, Alabama, and our dedicated refugee resettlement team is committed to guiding and assisting them throughout this transformative journey,” says Program Director, Stephanie Manning, LMSW.
