Programs

GTA manages a number of programs designed to bring the international community and the citizens of Alabama together to participate in important global conversations. These programs educate and inform foreign visitors and local residents of the many similarities they share, as well as many of the differences that make our 21st century world such an interesting place. 

These programs and services connect the diverse sectors of Alabama such as business, education, government agencies, and non-profit organizations through face-to-face interactions and meaningful cross-cultural exchange. 

Global Ties Alabama’s portfolio includes fee for service customized cultural competency training that is designed to improve communication and collaboration between customers, constituents, and colleagues. GTA is the sister city coordinator for the Cities of Huntsville and Madison, Alabama. 

The international exchange programs GTA hosts include but are not limited to the International Visitor Leadership Program, Open World, Fulbright Visiting Scholars, Youth Ambassador Exchange Programs, Transatlantic Media Network, Mentoring Partnerships for Young African Leaders, Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative.

International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP)

The International Visitors Leadership Program was first launched in 1940. This foreign exchange program helps promising leaders from countries all over the world come to the United States in the hopes of expanding both their professional network and their understanding of U.S. foreign policy.

The Young Transatlantic Innovation Leaders Initiative (YTILI)

Beginning in 2016, the Young Transatlantic Innovation Leaders Initiative has launched over 300 alumni from across Europe forging the way for international partnerships. YTILI is a Fellowship Program created by the U.S. Department of State.

Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative (YLAI)

Founded by the United States Department of State, the Young Leaders of Americas Initiative empowers rising business and social entrepreneurs from across the world. Launched in 2015, YLAI helps entrepreneurs from Latin America, The Caribbean, and Canada engage in an annual fellowship and active online networking opportunity.
