About Us

Learn about Global Ties Alabama’s people, mission, and the organization in general.

Who We Are –

Global Ties Alabama has been in existence in Huntsville since 1965 as International Services Council of Alabama, helping international military trainees at Redstone Arsenal feel at home, coordinating multi-cultural events in the Huntsville area, providing information about immigration and naturalization services to area residents, and hosting international visitors traveling to Alabama under the auspices of the U.S. Department of State’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)

Over the past four decades, Global Ties Alabama has benefited from funding from the City of Huntsville, the Madison County Commission, the U.S. Department of State- Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs, the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Jane K. Lowe Foundation, local corporations and private donors.

Global Ties Alabama’s mission – to promote international relationships through citizen diplomacy and enrich Alabama’s education, commerce and global awareness — is supported by its core values of respect, friendships, collaboration, lifelong learning, multicultural diversity and globalization.

Global Ties Alabama’s governing body is an elected, volunteer board of directors that consists of individuals who are committed to the mission of the organization.

Global Ties Alabama strives to implement standards of excellence as an organizational tool to implement
accountability in its management and governance practices.

What We Do –

Flags of the world

For over 50 years, Global Ties Alabama has been making  connections possible. Global Ties tailors travel and program itineraries to meet the cultural and professional needs of international visitors, governments, companies, and more. As a nonprofit partner of the U.S. Department of State, we sustain a network that coordinates international exchange programs and brings current and future leaders from around the world to communities throughout Alabama. Creating opportunities for business, nonprofit, government, and academic leaders from around the world to share ideas, learn from each other, and build trust is vital to creating strong, lasting relationships between them—and the programs the Global Ties network conduct and support do just that.
